A Momentous Beginning

When I first came to BYU in 1972, I worked with the masters and doctoral students in EducationalPsychology.  Norm Chow was working on his doctorate so I helped him maneuver everything and helped him with his dissertation.  That went well and so when LaVell was ready to work on his his dissertation, Norm suggested he work with me to complete it.  I did that and it went well.  I was thrilled because I was already an avid fan of both LaVell and the football program.  When his assistant retired, he asked me to come down and work for him.  I had wonderful friends in Ed Psych and all of Education, but I went.

My first assignment was to make a retirement card from the team and coaches to Clara, who I was replacing.  I didn’t know anything about Clara but the Lord inspired me and I was able to make a card from a picture of the team and had them holding her up on their shoulders and cheering her on. It turned out very fun, even the poem.  All the coaches and players signed it and they presented it to her at the banquet.  Just the beginning!!!!
